Volume Logic audio plug-in

for Apple's iTunes. It provides real-time digital remastering for improved sound quality for iTunes: "Any iTunes audio, including MP3s, AACs, Internet radio, or CDs, will automatically be digitally remastered for consistent volume level and spectral balance. Low levels are intelligently raised and loud signals are kept under control, all in real-time." Volume Logic sells for $20, runs on Mac OS X, and is available as a free two-week trial.

    Damn Right, ick!

A great recording has the same shift in volume as the original source.
    It's called dynamics.
Only crappy pop records have the dynamics crunched so you just ear it loud and sing the chorus.
