Griffin iTalk for 3G iPods

Voice Recorder for the iPod. The stylish matching accessory snaps directly on top of any "3G" (third-generation) iPod and turns it into a fully functional voice recorder and playback device. In addition to its built-in microphone and internal speaker; the iTalk has a connector that supports both headphone monitoring and the use of an external microphone. The device retails for $40, but is available for a pre-order special price of $35 until it begins shipping in April. [updated]

With iTalk connected to an iPod, users can record thousands of hours of seminars, meetings, classes, and other events up to 100 feet away. Its built in microphone was designed to record crystal clear audio and provides Automatic Gain Control that assures the best possible signal level. For even higher quality recordings users can connect an external microphone directly to iTalk via a mini-jack connection on top of the unit. The iTalk can also play back recordings through its "very capable" integrated speaker.

    8KHz, 16 bit.

Junk. Where's 44kHz? Why not cd quality sound?

    Can't do better

As described on the product's tech page, the sound wuality is "iPod Specified," not Griffin specified. That's why the Belkin device is the same. Maybe Apple has a reason for limiting the iPod recording capability?

    limited by firmware

Perhaps someday they'll issue an update to support 44 and 48 khz.

But, i'm still excited about the capability of adding an external mic through the itrip, this way i can feed my shotgun mic through it. But being that it won't be at least 44khz, i'd rather go buy a cheap MD recorder for audio recordings.

    Whatever...

Considering the c*** Belkin put out, this is awesome. If your need higher quality, stop looking for $35 devices to do the task.

Great job Griffin! Now, if I buy a 3G iPod, this will be my first accessory.

    If it's like all other..

Griffin products, don't expect it for at least 9 months. The iTrip was announced and given a ship date and the actual ship date was months after what was quoted and I placed a pre-order for the iFM a little less than a year ago and you see what happened to that. Griffin has some neat products, but they need to make good on their ships dates.

    CD quality

Why do you need "CD Quality" recording on a $10 microphone the size of a dime???

Hiss recorded at 44 kHz, cool...

    Ditto on iTrip

I pre-ordered iTrip for my 3G iPod in July and didn't receive it until the end of December. I saw it in Apple stores like month earlier but couldn't buy because I already had ordered mine.

I would highly recommend NOT pre-ordering. Just wait till the Apple store has it.

As a side note, I'm very happy with the iTrip. looks and works very well. Just disappointed with the ridiculously long ship date.
