platforms add a major ergonomic benefit to all Macintosh G5 and G4 towers: mobility. Once the Gboard is attached, users can effortlessly move their 40+ lb. tower computer around their workspace to access the rear I/O connectors, the DVD/CD drive tray, or to relocate the system. The Gboards also add an aesthetic quality to the G5 and G4 towers." They are expected to ship at the end of the month for $100 and $130, respectively; it costs $10 extra for locking front casters.
"Every aspect of the design of the Gboard5 and Gboard4 is intended to integrate completely with Apple's product design while also enhancing the use of the towers themselves," said David L'Heureux, co-founder of AstroAge. "We saw other more generic designs that try to solve the same problem," continued AstroAge co-founder Nick Despotopoulos. "Our long-time relationship with the Apple community tells us that Macintosh users demand way more in terms of quality and appearance. Gboard accomplishes that goal in spades."
The Gboard5 includes half-inch thick architectural-grade Plexiglas acrylic for outstanding clarity and durability along with four Shepherd two-inch metal die-cast twin wheel casters, each capable of bearing more than 75 lbs. of weight for movement of the G5 tower. The Gboard5 comes completely assembled for simple, quick installation. Users simply lower the G5 tower through two slots in the surface of the Gboard5 and slide the G5 forward to lock it in place. At the back of the Gboard5 is an integrated cable guide system for managing and organizing G5 cables.
The Gboard4 shares the same stylish looks and functionality as the Gboard5 via the same architectural-grade Plexiglas acrylic, Shepherd casters and nickel chrome plated steel acorn nuts. The Gboard4's patent-pending design features two vertical guide tabs that insert between the G4 tower's handles and main body. The Gboard4 also ships completely assembled and offers an optional travel strap available for $20 that loops around the G4 tower and through slots in the surface of the Gboard4 to prevent accidental detachment from the Gboard4.
