    Beware of EZQuest...

I purchased 3 EZQuest drives in 2 years and 2 of the 3 no longer function. The DVD burner stopped opening and closing and one of the power supplies on an external hard drive stopped working. Tech support was unhelpful as it took almost a month to establish that my drives were no longer under warranty. No offer of help or suggestion was given to help a customer who spent over $1000 on 2 firewire hard drives and a DVD Burner.

These drives were used side by side almost daily for video editing and they were unreliable for me. I wish I had purcased LaCie or something else. You experience may vary but heed my warnings.

    EZQuest drives

I have four EZQuest FW drives - most over over a year and they all work fine. One set (75GBx2) is setup for RAID-0 and the other are just single 120GB on the FW bus.

They are a bit noisey however with the big plastic case and fans. My LaCie 185GB drive is much quieter & smaller, but the powersupply (brick) is outside of the case.

I do not normally run these drives 24x7, but they do seem durable. Now my 1 year old BusLink FW drive seems to have fragged itself - maybe its just needs a reformat?

For best reliability with RAW drives Seagate is the best IME and when you get that rare failure (I had one 3 years ago) they pay for shipping BOTH WAYS and do not ask many questions either (like IBM). My Seagates run 24x7 and even the IDE/ATA drives have not failed yet (knock on wood :)).
