iPod manufacturing details


The EE Times offers a , including the costs of manufacturing the device: "Manufacturing cost is highly dependent on the hard-disk pricing Apple has negotiated with Toshiba. We estimate that the drive costs dominate a total cost-of-goods sold (COGS) north of $150. Including the simple but substantial docking base, headphones and charger, COGS approaches half the $400 retail price for the 30-Gbyte model."

    What about R&D? Operating costs? Percentage for customer support? Hardware costs alone don't cover other costs, like most PC-phile myopic-engineer-type home-brew builders don't understand...

    apple users are so weird

    do you guys see the whole world in terms of mac/windows dichotomy? I mean, anybody says/does anything that may be critical of Apple in any way, and whoops! here comes the Apple brigade, charging to defend the royal treasure.
