20\" iMac, G5 reviews

PC Magazine has posted a with "the ideal balance ofcompatibility, performance, usability, and value. It has serious number-crunching capabilities, but this machine most clearly outshines Intel-based systems when performing complex operations on massive disk and/or RAM-based data sets."

    fp ;-)

and since when do we need to listen to the pc weenies when it comes to appraisal of the mac???

we know it's good. they just always need much longer to get it. mainstream idiots.

in that sense this is not macnn-worthy news at all.

we could care less about their butt-kissing of apple. however, if some pc user sees it and buys a mac it would at least be good advertisement. what the h*** this is doing on macnn is still a mystery...

    blah blah

I know this is a mac site, but try to have a little more thought going on in your brain then "macs rule, PCs suck". Blind faith that everything apple makes is the greatest thing since sliced bread is just stupid. PC mag is right: the iMac 20" is a consumer-powered machine with a professional level screen. You're buying the screen, plain and simple. h*** even all the apple worshipers said that when it came out. It's not rocket science.

    and..

As for first post, it might have been impressive if you did on slashdot where it has 700k readers, and even then FP is so passe. So what is the value on of FP on Macnn? Yeah, as pathetic as the zealots want it to be.

    PC v Mac

This debate has gone on since the inception of the Mac and will go on until computers are no longer tied to operating systems locally. The user experience should be as transparent as using a television, and the Mac OS is much closer to that than any PC is or ever will be as far as any educated user can see.

The true power is yet to come when one can rent software as a per use basis, which would expand the world of power computing to the rest of us poor folk who cannot afford some of the high end applications.

This user for one is happy the Mac is getting publicity in good form or another, as people always take notice and try things out for themselves. Take a lesson from a basic rule of marketers, as any publicity is good publicity. Many take PC users as dumb or ignorant. Well, they are half correct, as they are simply ignorant of what the other side (Mac) provides them. Others, have little choice in the computer they use at work, as many corporations are dependent on Windows programs and networking for their infrastructure to continue to work. They are sadly mistaken about the true cost of their choice in OS, as constant patches and updates force them into a quagmire of despare and dependence on IT professionals and MIS directors who w**** themselves on the company as a necessary evil.

As for the "Blah blah" person, the screen is geared towards a marketshare that Apple sadly needs and that is the over 50 crowd with bad eye-sight. A 20" screen is going to provide them the ability to increase font size without sacrificing the screen real estate. It is a great design for a machine for the market, and if a power user was to buy a Mac, they would buy the G5 and then a seperate screen (20")... It is all about the target market, and this person believes they are right on target.

My confidence in Apple has only increased since I have decided to move from the Windows envrinonment, and solidfied, since having to use a PC running Windows in a recent job. The machine was a svelt 2ghz Dell that acted more sluggish than my 1ghz PB.

Ignorance of the marketplace and the lemming effect have made WIndows the number one choice of business, along with the so-called cheaper price tag. I say so-called because all of us in the know understand the real price of computing, and the Mac is by far less costly in the long run when one takes into account the simple longevity of the hardware.

Simply put as most have said, PCs suck and Macs rule.
    It's just true.

    missed the train

It's rather strange timing for these reviews. Maybe they waited for all the other reviews to be written and just took a bit from here and there. In any case, it's supportive publicity for Apple since Macworld is happening now. People will read the articles, then notice something about Macworld and will think, "hey, I heard that they have a computer wit a 20" LCD and it's supposed to rock".
