    stupid question time

why exactly wouldn't they have made a security update part of the system update. I've downloaded 5 different updates in the past 24 hours.

    stupid question, alright

They didn't shoehorn this into the big 10.3.2 update because that would mean quite a bit of testing to make sure it didn't break anything else, thus delaying the update.

In cases like this, releasing two separate updates can happen faster than releasing one combined update.

    True,

but have you ever had any kind of security related problem with any machine running OS X? I'll take patches for security nonevents any day.

    10.3.2 Hosed Mail...

First email message I sent out of Mail, it locked up, couldn't even force-quit the app. Now, I have to reboot, I can run mail for a few minutes, but on the reply or new message I start working on, it gives me the spinning rainbow CD of death.

Most other applications *sort of* work, but my network connection is totally toast.

    I'm sorry.

I was a Windows user and switched last year.
It seems I brought my Windows problems to all the Mac users!

    I'm sorry.
Well, not really, my Mac is awesome and has yet to cause me problems... knock'en on wood now.

    Wait a minute, folks

Before you all go comparing the recent news items about OS X security to anything Microsoft puts out, you should read this great article from The Register:

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/34554.html

Although a little light on details, it paints a fair picture of the true state of affairs. There is simply no way you can compare Microsoft security to the way Apple has implemented Unix security with OS X.
