Reader: QT MPEG2 expires

A MacNN reader located in the U.K. reports that Apple's (which retails for £20) "times-out December 15th whether you just bought it or not." There is nothing on the Apple Web site to explain this behavior.

    Hmmm

I know they had some licensing issues with MPEG-2, wonder if it will only affect UK users though.

    From the FAQ..

    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/products/mpeg2playback/faq.html

"My MPEG-2 Playback Component has stopped working. What should I do?
A new version of the QuickTime 6 MPEG-2 Playback Component is now available. This new version includes performance enhancements and is required for compatibility with QuickTime 6.3. As a past purchaser, you can download it free of charge through your Apple Store account. Just visit the Apple Store and click "Your Account" in the store menu. After entering your Apple ID and password, click "Software Download Purchases" where you will see a link to the QuickTime 6 MPEG-2 Playback Component. Click the link to download and install the updated version."

    Nope.

Re-downloading is NOT the answer. Before you chastise our intelligence, you should be SURE you're right.
