iPod takes No. 3 in AudioRevolution\'s Top 100 of 2003

updated 09:00 am EST, Mon December 15, 2003

iPod takes No. 3

: "The fact that the Apple iPod allows you to carry 4000 songs in your pocket is certainly a perk, but now, with their iTunes software and pay-per-download service, the iPod is even more essential. If you love music, you need an iPod to take with you to the gym, to play in the car, to connect to your computer at work and beyond." The top 5 items included TiVO, Mark Levinson No.40 (pre amp), Energy Take 5.2 (speakers), and Meridian 800 (DVD player).

    Huh?

"The fact that the Apple iPod allows you to carry 4000 songs in your pocket..."
    Try 10,000 songs.

    Re: Huh?

Huh? The first iPod (5gig) held 1000 songs, so this one could hold about 8000.

Apple changed the math on their website. It used to be for 160kbps MP3, now it's 128kbps AAC.

The really funny part is this:

" The iPod is no slouch when compared to the iMac, especially considering that at $399, it has a larger hard drive than my Apple iBook laptop, yet still fits easily in my palm and/or slides right in my pocket. The net result is that you can easily pump 1,000 songs onto this tiny device, thanks to its five-gigabyte hard drive.

" I now have over 1,400 songs that I have either ripped from CD or got from Napster back in the good old days."

    Old, old, old.

I wonder why they didn't update the source article for this piece. If you read the entire article (from the link on the list) it's clear that this was written for the FIRST iPod. It's nice to be on the list, but come on, maybe a little updating was in order.

    To AudioRevolution

I just sent this in to the address they had on their page for "Letters to Publisher":

    Subject: iPod's #3 Spot
    To: jerry@audiorevolution.com

    Jerry,

In your "Top 100 of 2003" article , the iPod takes the #3 spot . The article says it carries 4,000 songs. Well, it does, but it actually is capable of carrying 10,000 songs . That's the highest-capacity one Apple has right now. Maybe that would be better to mention, just so the article is up-to-date.

    Response

His (non-sensical) response (to which I've responded, but I won't go into all that here). This is after I showed him exactly what link I was looking at, and at the top of the page it says "Top 100 of 2003" in big bold letters:
    --------------------------
... You are reading an old review of the original iPod. If we did what you are requesting, we would need to change the review every time apple makes the iPod bigger. People get the idea...
