updated 05:35 pm EST, Thu December 11, 2003

Finale 2004 to ship in Jan

MakeMusic has delayed the release of . In a note to customers, MakeMusic says it continuing to work with testers to squash the last remaing bugs: "We now expect to ship Finale 2004 for OS X (including Panther support) in the month of January 2004. We cannot say for certain, of course, because each Finale upgrade is an exercise not just in development, but in invention. Thus predicting ship dates accurately is always difficult, sometimes impossible." The current version of Finale only runs on Mac OS 9; MakeMusic says the Mac OS 9 version of Finale 2004 will be released after the initial Mac OS X release.

    Again?

    I can't believe this. I'm pretty disappointed.

    I'm surprised..

..that Coda is dragging their feet so much on this. I'm a music student and our school has two labs. One with 16x g4 towers and one with 16x G4 iMacs. The towers are still running 9.2.x and are chugging away with finale, digital performer, etc. The iMacs, on the other hand (running 10.2.8), have no music software on them at all (!) and are basically used for internet/email/typing. Which is a drag twice over because they have bigger screens and better internals than the two year old G4 towers down the hall. I'm all for getting the bugs out and tweaking UI, etc., but half of the computers in my school are just sitting there doing (practically) nothing because coda are taking their good old time. Do they pay their programmers?
