Heuris Pro Indie HD system
Heuris and JVC Professional Products Company have released , a series of software tools that allow videographers bring footage, shot with the JY-HD10U camera, into Apple's Final Cut Pro digital video editing program. The Pro Indie HD Toolkit features three powerful software tools: XtractorHDV ($200) import utility, MPEG Power Professional-DTVHD ($4800) MPEG-2 encoding software and the XtoHD ($100) player utility. The bundle is available for $4800, a $300 discount.
"This as a great tool for the independent producer shooting the next
on-location story for Discovery or National Geographic" said HEURIS
President Brian Quandt. "The HEURIS Pro Indie Toolkit provides a new
playground for those that could not afford HD in the past."
Filmmakers can shoot footage with the JVC JY-HD10U cameras and download HD video through XtractorHDV with a single click. The application imports and
converts the HDV into a format compatible with Final Cut Pro. Finally, MPEG PowerProfessional, new DTV-HD software encodes the footage into MPEG-2 streams. The XtoHD tool transfers the MPEG-2 streams to a D-VHS deck for playback or can
record to D-VHS tape.

...at what price!
Could some explain to me why this software has to be so-o-o expensive. It's more expensive than the camera used to aquire the files in the first place! Heuris (like Sarnoff Labs) still think they can charge an arm and a leg for such products. Guys.. yor dealing with a mass market products on both ends of the chain here. You would do well (and sell exponentially more software packages (and generate greater return)) if they slash the price by 75%. I don't mind paying good money for good software (FCP, etc). Heuris, this is absurd!
