Evening tech news: Internet services company Yahoo today said it is working on technology to could be the "next big thing" in voice communication, eventually replacing the standard telephone.

    .50¢? Half a cent is pretty damn cheap if you asked me.

    Also, wasn't VoIP supposed to be the "big thing" like 3 years ago? Or more? I don't doubt that's the way it will go eventually, but to claim now that's it's the next big thing seems silly.

    It's only a matter of time now until the FCC decides you talking over your internet connection entitles them to some chunk of money. If our government can find a way to tax something, they certainly will. There's too much money to pass up here.

    Made by the guys who did Kazza, it has got a lot of people talking about VoIP now. It is free, and from what I understand really good quality. My cousin uses it to talk with his Dad long distance.

    It is currently windows only, but my guess is someone will "get in" like the "kazza" programs for mac, or they will make an offical port.

    Get with it MacNN, this story is at least a year old, VoIP is becoming pervasive and the Mac solutions are out there too (some even covered on MacNN, believe it or not).
