OpenOSX Gimp 2.0 Preview 1

OpenOSX today announced based on the current developer's release of the photo-manipulation software, The Gimp 1.3.23. The preview offers several new features, improvements and enhancements, including G5-specific optimizations as well as GNOME 2.4.1, vector paths, editable paths and text, and Panther-based UI. OpenOSX says that extensive testing has determined the build is "quite mature, very stable and useable." The single-click installer also includes complete documentation (in both PDF and HTML formats), tutorials, over 100 fonts, brushes, patterns, and 600MB of plugins. The OpenOSX Gimp 2.0 Preview 1 is available for $30 (CD) or $25 (download) with a $5 discount to previous owners.

    1st Post :-)

You want me to pay $25 for a preview and then $20 to upgrade? Seems kind of silly to me. Won't this eventually be free and in a nice binary package for fink?

    my understanding

is that stuff from openOSX is not that good. They package it up and make it "maclike" to install, but sometimes they rip packages off others and what they do to install can s**** up your machine. I would SERIOUSLY suggest everyone read the faqs on the Fink website to get up to speed with which venders have their stuff together. Or just s**** all them and use Fink ;-)

    here's the details

    http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/relations.php

Q2.4: What is your relation with OpenOSX.com?

A: They used Fink to build the first release of their GIMP CD and refuse to acknowledge that properly. Read the public statement for details.

    More info: http://fink.sourceforge.net/pr/openosx.php

IMHO, do not support developers who rip off packages from someone else. I know I don't.

    G5 optimizations is false

I got a copy of the "G5 optimized" version of GIMP 1.2.5 and it didn't have any optimizations in it at all. These guys not only rip off open source without giving anything back, but they also misrepresent their products.

Don't buy this and don't support OpenOSX dishonesty.

    No G5 Code

    h**P://http://www.macgimp.org/

They're saying that there's no G5 code at all!! Has OpenOSX ever done anything that's not evil?

    these guys suck

OpenOSX people basically give you the false impression of a professionally made package. Everything they sell can be had for FREE if you go to the respective homepages. It is sad, but they are praying on the 'I-don't-want-to-think-about-it-I'll-just-pay-some-$$' mac crowd.

This is one of the more reoccuring times when you don't get what you pay for.
