    Betcha...

that they will be "previewing" LW 8 on the PC. I've yet to see Newtek demonstrate LW on a Mac. At Siggraph and the other shows they attend it's all PC. Newtek has a tendency to treat their Mac customers like second class citizens. So much so, that I've just sold my copy of Lightwave and will be moving over to Electric Image.

    yikes.

In years past there was plenty of Mac goodness, but that's apparently gone the way of the dodo.

I think you made an unfortunate choice in going to EI though. =)

    i heard

that at graphic shows they often showed lots of g4s like racks of them.

i too think your move to EI was wrong.

    Me three..

I would advise you to go to Cinema or Maya.
EI is just a dinosaur of a company. Modeler just too buggy.

    Dump Newtek now...

I agree that Newtek's support has fallen dramatically recently. That can be directly attributed to the personnel that has left the company to form Luxology (most were the only Mac supporters within Newtek). The founders of Luxology are the original creators of LightWave so I suspect that the quality of LightWave will drop as well. I own LightWave and will NOT be upgrading; I've lost confidence in Newtek as a supplier of Mac software. Luxology will be releasing its own suite of products so I'll be waiting to see what they'll be offering before making the switch to either Maya or Luxology's products.

    Check www.Luxology.net...

...there are screenshots of Luxology's modeler, Modo, at their website. The screenshots are displayed on Macs. If that's not proof that they're Mac enthusiasts then I don't know what is. They even demoed the product on a Mac during SIGGRAPH in San Diego this year. BTW, for a while they had Windows users wondering whether the product was Mac-only because of the demos and screenshots.

    "i heard"

I personally built the fully functional LW render farm consisting of then-new G4s for NewTek's stage demos at Siggraph 3 years ago. I can't remember, but there were I think 10 machines.

    You heard right.
