You Software founded

Craig Barnes, the founder of , to develop and market a complete line of productivity software that will "fundamentally make the Mac OS X software you already own (such as operating systems and applications) easier to use and customize, so your computer works the way you want it to work. In the next 90 days, You Software will ship several titles designed for Mac OS X. These initial System Enhancement Utilities are focused on the real world needs of users and make using Mac OS X faster, easier and more efficient."

"You System Enhancements add features, enable customization and give users more control over the power of their operating system. You System Enhancements will be delivered both as stand-alone products and in collections of utilities. In addition, over the next 12 months the company will also introduce client/server offerings that will bring You Software productivity gains to networked workgroups."

Like Extensis and Now Software before it, the You Software product development strategy combines internally developed products with both publishing arrangements and acquisitions of independently developed products and technologies. Earlier this year You Software acquired the intellectual property assets of PTH Software, a developer of system utilities that have been consistently recognized as best of class for the Macintosh operating system.

    errr...

Will it let me browse servers by hitting control+k instead of "control+k+clicking+browse"?
    Is this progress?

    Okay, don't get mad...

...when Apple takes your ideas and puts them in 10.4. For some reason, people really dislike that.

    OK... :p

Sure, dude... Whatever. It's a free marketplace - have at it. I personally prefer to use the features that Apple puts in themselves, though. I don't buy much 'utility' software. Just a point of view. Good luck. ;)

    Worried? I am.

    Remember the Now Menus

Back when System 7 came out, Now menus were a great help. You could rearrange items in the Apple Menu, create keyboard shortcuts just about anywhere, manage memory sizes as applications launched, etc. Apple implemented many of these features in Mac OS 8 and later. Hopefully, You Software can bring new ideas to the Finder and eventually offer us a better user experience.

As far as Suitcase is concerned, version 2.1.4.p3 was the best. Lightning fast, unlike Suitcase 10 which slows down your system too often.

    Suitcase?

Extensis BOUGHT Suitcase, they didn't develop it!

Apple needs to do something about the horrendous font situation is OS X! This is the one thing I absolutely HATE about OS X! OR, should I say 5, as in how many font folders (I lost count) are scattered throughout the System!

Now Software made some fantastic products in it's time and PTH makes some excellent utilities... PTH Clock, PTH Volume, etc. I suspect they'll write some interesting stuff!
