BG: CNN plants question about Mac vs. PC Debate

PC vs Mac planted by CNN

The Boston Globe reports that " at last week's debate of the Democratic presidential candidates at Faneuil Hall in Boston, according to the student who posed the query and wrote about it yesterday in an online forum of the Brown (University) Daily Herald. During the debate, cosponsored by the nonprofit Rock the Vote organization, Alexandra Trustman asked the candidates whether they preferred the PC or Mac format for their computers."

So what? I guess this is the first time questions were planted in a debate. If she was really feeling that bad about it and felt like she was being used, she never would have agreed to do it and walked out on high moral ground. Instead, she gets up there, asks her question, gets her 15 seconds of fame, and b****** about two weeks later. Geesh.

CNN is a Mac shop

It's not surprising the CNN producer's were savvy enough to ask this question - CNN is a Mac shop. All of their in-field video editing is done on powerbooks running FCP 3. And for a silly question it does rise above "boxers or briefs" in my mind. It makes me cringe that Al Sharpton uses a Mac but so does Rush Limbaugh's being a Mac user. The wide spread PC usage of the candidates tells me they're likely not very tech smart and Lieberman's answer of "blackberry" makes me trust him even less. His answer smacks of an old man trying to be hip. Bleh.

the one they use

most people only have experience with a single platform - usually first exposed at work. They "prefer" the system they know how to use.

The real shame is that CNN caused this student to waste her opportunity to ask a real question that might have elicited some actual information about the candidates instead of a cute little factoid. They caused her to come off as a stereotypic ditsy coed from a 1950s style movie

Lieberman

Lieberman has a Blackberry because many representatives and senators in Congress received one afte the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The devices were intended to insure elected representatives can be found and communicated with in case a catastrophe bogs down other telcom systems.

You are missing the point

What CNN did was cross the line between reporting news and creating news.

If they wanted to lighten things up, they could have had the moderator ask the question, they could have shown Dilbert cartoons, they could have done what ever they decided to do.

But to appoint shills, and then to have the shill ask a specific question for a specific reason when they are representing that this is students asking their own question is manipulating you. It is not whining for her to come forward with this info.

PS-Sharpton may not be the most politically correct, but he is certainly the hippest. If we took all the statements uttered that night and put them in a "How much do you agree with this statement" poll (without attributions), I bet he would score the highest.

Because you don't believe in someone's politics or don't like there personality means they shouldn't be able to use your computer of choice? I think his os platform shows that he is probably just like some of the ideas in his political platform...fresh, up-to-date," thinking different". Its too bad the media and hence most Americans wont take him seriously because he really does have a lot of smart things to say.

bush uses a dell becuase dell is from texas and he is good friends with teh owner of dell. funny how he just looooove scatering to his firends. can we say oil contracts in Iraq for special friends ? I CAN. also, its funny how he says he doesnt liek his own personal and private information getting out and only wnats his information to stay with him. Then he truns around and gets this patriot act c*** goingthat does exactlytrhge opposite of that. well , as long as he isnt getting affected, he doesnt care what happens. kill a few thousand iraqis when its KNOWN sadaam didnt have anything to do with 911, but then dont be as agressive in afghanistan nor audi arabia when we know with better certainty that they had LOTS to do with it. funny what oil hungry presidents will and wont do and ho inconsistent they are are in their illogic

I have been a longitme mac user - since the beginning - and I have a colleague that is just as much a die-hard PC user as I am a mac user_ We've been friends for several years_ And for the most part we have similar view points on many topics and hold many of the same values and ethics_ Both of us have leader type personalities and we clash at times but we also feed off of that to advance ourselves and to push each other to the next level_ Our personalities are different for many reasons - background - influences growing up - location - financial status of our families - but rarely are our politics swayed by the fact that I own a mac and he owns a PC_

You might want to rephrase your question_
