BitHeadz to unveil synth pack at NAMM
BitHeadz is expected to release Unity Synth Expander 1 -- a software suite that provides additional synthesizer plug-ins for the Unity 3.0 product line -- early next year. It will be previewed at this year's Winter NAMM show in San Francisco. The entire package will include 500 sounds that can be used in the as a plug-in or in stand-alone mode. The synthesis package can be brought into Unity Session, Unity DS-1, Unity AS-1, or the user's favorite sequencer. Unity Synth Expander 1 will retail at $200 and will be available through BitHeadz and its resellers.

Macron Soft today released GSG, a GPRS modem script generator for Mac OS X. It can control all parameters of the GPRS protocol and create fine-tuned scripts. GSG is $8 shareware, and technical support is provided to all license holders. [Download - 1.1MB]
ChimeX 1.0 ($5) adds the popular hourly chime functionality found in 'Classic' versions of the Mac OS to Apple's new OS X. "Have your computer speak the time, play a System 7 sound, or play your computer's standard alert sound on the hour, on the half, or on the quarter hour." [Download - 1.0MB]
Aaron Faby of Server Logistics has released a PHP 4.3 for OS X package, which requires Apache 2 (also available from the Web site). ZeboPhoto 1.1 is a maintenance update to the $5 utility for viewing and editing images. Version 1.1 includes an unspecified number of enhancements, and is free to registered owners of version 1.0. [Download - Classic, OS X]
LQ Graphics has updated its Photo to Movie software to version 1.1. The update adds an inspector window, many more export formats, the ability to have multiple key frames in a movie, and a handful of bug fixes. Photo to Movie ($20) enables users to create movies by zooming and panning over photos. [Download - 330KB]
Unity Session 3.0.6 gains better Mac OS X 10.2 support, better (more accurate) readouts, and correctly-limited physical model outputs. Unity Session is a Mac-only audio sampling/synthesizing package. [Download - Classic, OS X]
Helix Technologies has released version 5.1 of its self-titled database development suite for the Macintosh. "Helix 5.1 is the first version in the product's history that was designed by people who actually used it to create real-life solutions to data management problems." Macworld Expo SF: new events and products
IDG World Expo today announced that that next week's Macworld Expo San Francisco will feature more than 325 exhibitors as well as dozens of new products and new events such as a special panel presentation with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak (2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7), the all-new MacBrainiac Challenge, a game show-style event (Thursday, January 9 at 12:30 p.m.), and The Hands-On MacLabs, which provide hands-on computer training. NeoTron Design to premiere new KeyGuides
NeoTron Design will be premiering its newest KeyGuides for Final Cut Pro, Photoshop 7 and After Effects 5.5, and Digital Performer at MacWorld Expo San Francisco. KeyGuides are data-packed laminated placemats which spread out the entire keyboard power of an application in a unique graphic layout and can be used as "aids for those who desire a rapid approach to learning advanced use." They will be available at special show discount to registered show attendees during the Final Cut Pro User Group meeting at the SF Marriot (in Yerba Buena Room on Wednesday, January 8 at 6:45 PM).

David Ahmed's updated movie player for Mac OS X includes a 3D gallery to organize movie collections. MovieHouse 3.3 adds CD burning for lists (with Mac OS X 10.2.3), a search as you type function, and other code enhancements. Qdea's Synchronize Pro X 2.0 adds the ability to make a bootable backup without having to log in as 'root', includes a new verify function (independently or as part of a synchronize/backup), now correctly copies folder modification dates, and an improved log viewer with better support for large log files. iTVeye is a specialized web browser that links to and provides TV viewing information from Yahoo! TV Website: "[It] is a compact browser that provides limited browsing functionality in order to be better integrated with the EyeTV digital video recorder from El Gato Software." Web Site Maestro 2.1 is a $30 shareware tool to check HTML and optimize your web pages for faster loading. Version 3.1 includes improved FTP functions with a Parent/Mirror popup menu, a new Rename/Move Remote File or Directory command, and a slider control for better login. [1.9MB]
Morpheus has updated Virtual Composer 3.5.3, its "graphical multichannel musical compiler, sequencer and analyzer for the Macintosh, designed for perfect execution of complex polyphonic music using QuickTime's Musical Instruments Architecture." The unregistered version ($50) of the Mac OS 7/8/9 application is fully functional, but disables the save function. [4.5MB]
WiebeTech ships quieter FireWire drives
WiebeTech is now shipping a fanless version of its DesktopGB+, its high-performance desktop FireWire drive. enclosure. The new external drives are available in capacities of up to 200GB, including an empty, user-configurable version and feature the Oxford OXFW911 FireWire Bridge, an aluminum enclosure for better heat dissipation, dual FireWire ports, support for ATA-6 drives (for drives larger than 250GB), a universal AC adapter, and Mac Drive 5 software for reading Mac-formatted volumes on Windows computers. The case-only version is $140, while 80GB ($220), 120GB ($300), 180GB ($430), and 200GB ($480) versions are shipping immediately--each uses a 7,200 rpm mechanism.

SwordfishExpress 1.0.2 is a freeware application that integrates with the United States Postal Service to generate Delivery and Signature Confirmation barcoded shipping labels. It can now check the status of Delivery Confirmation packages from within any application that supports services. Pod2Go 0.4.2 adds horoscopes and 140 more news sources (now alphabetized with descriptions) to the freeware application that will download news, weather, stock quotes and more onto your iPod. [304KB]
KavaSoft has updated iConquer, a $13 shareware game of world conquest for Mac OS X. Version 1.1.1 includes more difficulty levels with three new types of computer players, improved map borders, a new iBook-sized map, and improved network performance and Rendezvous support. [5.4MB]
