Apple has released DVD Studio Pro 1.2, an update to its DVD authoring software that adds support for external FireWire drives that use the Panasonic combination DVD-RAM/DVD-R mechanism, such as the LaCie DVD-RAM/R drive. It also improves the output of DLT tapes that are sent for replication, particularly those that use copy protection technologies, such as Macrovision and CSS.
Unsanity LCC has announced the release of Xounds 1.0, the "haxie that brings Appearance Sounds to Mac OS X." Xounds converts existing Mac OS 8 or 9 soundsets and allows them to be played in Mac OS X (note that not all sounds are able to be played).

PocketNotes 1.1, a flexible notepad application for outlining and planning, has been released. The update adds 14 new skins, improves multiple monitor support, and fixes numerous bugs. A 30 day demo is available; the full version is $20.

ProVUE Development has announced the release of its Panorama iPod Organizer at the MacWorld Expo in San Fransisco. The application allows users of Apple's iPod to easily store information, such as phone numbers, contacts, and notes, on the iPod and allows accessability through the built-in interface.
Casady & Greene has released Conflict Catcher 9, an update to its $80 startup management application which claims to offer "faster, easier and simpler Conflict testing" as well as logging of intermittant problems, enhanced USB/FireWire reporting, more extension link groups, and other enhancements. Vizspring has released its new flagship font manager application, Typeset 1.0, a "full-featured" $15 font viewing utility and has updated its $5 Mac clock and timer application, iWatch 2.0. Glass Bead Software will release a beta of SnapTalk 3 for the OS X next week and says it expects to release the final version in March. (SnapTalk is a secure alternative to Internet-based chat for small businesses.)

Several MacNN readers note that BBC has dropped its QuickTime news feed via QTV: "BBC World is no longer available through QT TV. This is a major PR fiasco for Apple on the eve of MWSF. While many Americans may not care, audiences outside the US look to the BBC as the "gold standard" of news coverage. Personally, the BBC World feed was precisely why I would use QT TV; if I wanted CNN's lame-o Headline News, I'd punch it up on cable."
Synthetik Software today announced Studio Artist 2.0, described as "the world's first graphics synthesizer." Version 2.0, now available for OS X, includes 8 hours of QuickTime video tutorials, a new core image processing drawing engine that offers the ability to design 3-D lighting effects, new image processing effects, new paint Synthesizer Features, and enhanced time-based effects. Upgrades to the $380 software are $180 for registered owners. It is expected to ship next week.

Haxial Launcher 0.92 is a $10 program designed to "make it faster and easier for you to launch/open other programs, documents, folders, or URLs. Channel D has released QTBatchExporter 1.0b1v2, a $14 utility which offers batch conversion QuickTime movie files to a variety of different formats, using the system movie format exporters. It offers background conversion and export, accurate estimates of the conversion process, drag & drop conversion, and a conversion queue for tracking/managing files.
