Film critic Roger Ebert has some ringing praise for Macs in his Critical Acclaim column, in which he discusses his G3 desktop and PowerBook G3, both of which he is looking to upgrade to their G4-based counterparts in the near future: "We have six Macs here in my office at home. Life is too short to use anything but a Mac; Windows is just not a human environment."

Mac Deus Ex MP Patch in development

Westlake Interactive has announced that it has begun development on the multiplayer patch for Mac Deus Ex. "After a review of the PC multiplayer code Westake received from Ion Storm earlier this week, we are pleased to have found the changes not as substantial as expected, allowing us to provide the Mac patch at no additional cost." The patch will include cross-platform networking and is expected for release in the next two to three weeks.

Pixar shoots for one film per year

The Wall Street Journal reports that Pixar Animation Studios, headed by Apple CEO Steve Jobs, is hopeful that it can increase its output of feature films to one per year. After moving Pixar headquarters to a "huge central atrium housing everything from the cafeteria to the bathrooms" late last year, Jobs notes he spends at least one day each week at the Pixar campus.

Crossroads of Shadowbane has published an interview with Wolfpack Studios' Todd "Warden" Coleman on the upcoming Mac beta test for the company's massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), Shadowbane. Coleman notes that the Mac version of the Shadowbane client generally runs about 10 to 20 percent faster than the PC version. "We see the Mac as an incredibly important platform in our goal of reaching the elusive 'casual gamer'," says Coleman. "The other major titles in this market have ignored these players to date, and we think that is a mistake."
