FileMaker, Inc. has confirmed a security flaw in the FileMaker 5 Web Companion plug-in, which Blue World first identified on Monday. A fix for the bug is expected "within a week."
AMP Radio 1.6, an MP3 player for listening to Internet streams, now supports multiple file formats, displays ID3 tags while playing, and includes a variety of other small feature enhancements.
The company also released Entheogen 1.1 for its accessory "visualization software" for AMP Radio, adding speed improvements and layering, to control the order plugins draw.The Iconfactory has released IconBuilder 2.0, a free upgrade which brings the ability to create 128x128 icons for Mac OS X to its Photoshop filter that can create icons for both Mac OS and Windows platforms. Version 2.0 also offers support for thumbnail icons and includes a Mac OS X dock simulator that allows developers to see how the new icons behave while working in the Mac OS 9 environment. The $70 "Pro" version offers both Windows and Mac OS X support, while the Mac OS-only "lite" version is $30.
Microsoft has posted Outlook 8.2.2 for Macintosh, a new version of the Mac client for its Exchange Server (not the freeware Outlook Express email client). It improves messaging and group scheduling, interoperability with Outlook 97, 98, and 2000, has an updated user interface and adds features such as drag & drop support, text magnification, and other enhancements. A new fact sheet provides more information on the next "Watson release" of the Exchange Server client. Although the the site provides no definitive time frame on its release, the forthcoming release will bring support for both native and off-line Outlook calendering, tasks and reminders. Keyspan informed us of the changes found in version 1.6 of its USB Twin Serial Adapter, which we noted yesterday. Among these changes are the ability for the serial ports to retain their states after a Mac wakes up from Sleep (only functional on recent desktop Macs), the ability to disable printer emulation, the addition of modem port emulation, and other smaller enhancements.

Automated Solutions Group has released StructNamesPack 2.1, a suite of routines for obtaining arrays of method names, list names and form names for a given table. The CERT Coordination Center, a Carnegie Mellon University group that monitors security issues on the Internet, has issued a warning on "mstream," a new tool being used in distributed denial of service attacks.
"We believe the code for 'mstream' to be under active testing and development," the organization said. "The tool is capable of producing a severe denial of service condition. At this time, it does not contain any functionality that adds to the overall threat posed by tools in general."

Creative Computers, Inc., owners of MacMall, one of the oldest mail-order Mac retailers, reported first quarter sales of $238 million, a year-over-year increase of 35%. Mac OS sales increased 3% to $90 million, while PC/Wintel sales increased 19% to $105 million. The company also announced that it is changing its name to IdeaMall.
Intelli Innovations has released Server Sentinel 1.0, a $30 server monitoring software for Macintosh that checks servers at specified intervals and then runs events if a server check fails. The program, which can work either alone or with third-party hardware and software, will e-mail or page you, run AppleScripts, open applications locally or over networks and reset crashed computers. It currently supports Sophisticated Circuits' iLog and PowerKey Pro, Mark/Space Softworks' PageNOW!, James Sentman's Simple Pager and Casady & Greene's SoundJam.
Public Access Software has posted MiniCalendar 2.4, a beta release of the small, $10 calendar that provides exporting options into six graphics formats. This version adds a new HTML export option for the currently viewed calendar. Options currently include size, month, year, start week on Monday and show previous/next month's days. SmartWrap 1.7.2, analyzes your text, detects paragraphs and lists within your text, and rewraps your text so it wraps naturally within your document or message adds an AppleScript for PowerMail and adds the Eudora plug-in. Intuit recently began signing up beta testers for its Quicken 2001 for Macintosh. Users can apply until midnight PST on May 12. Everyone selected for the test will also receive a free copy of the final retail version of Quicken 2001 when it becomes available.
Aladdin Systems has acquired GoBar for Palm OS, a $14 productivity application that allows users to simulate the look and feel of a desktop on Palm handhelds, from DiGivello. The company has updated it to version 2.2, which replaces the Application Launcher with a desktop interface; shows recent applications, battery level, time and date; and allows shortcut configuration. Apple has released both multicountry QuickTime Streaming Server update 2.0 and 2.0.1. The latest release addresses several product and Open Source issues and provides general product enhancements, such as improved audio and video sync for streams broadcast using the Playlist Broadcaster and improved logging of client-error messages.
Apple has been reiterated as a "buy" by analyst Andrew J. Neff of Bear, Stearns & Co., with a target price range is $155 to $160 per share.

Digital camera sales are expected to reach $1.9 billion this year, 10% more than film cameras, marking the first year that digital camera sales surpass their traditional counterparts. The study, conducted by InfoTrends, still notes that film cameras vastly outnumber digital cameras by more than nine-to-one, although traditional camera sales are predicted to begin declining in 2005.

Newer Technology on Monday announced that the company is once again producing its 400 MHz G3 L2 upgrade, which sells for $450. Newer also plans on reintroducing G3 upgrades for NuBus-based Power Macs later this month. Additionally, the company announced price cuts accross its entire MAXpowr upgrade line, although specifics weren't provided.
Iomega today announced that it is now shipping its FireWire adapter for the Zip 250 USB drive. The adapter, which connects to the ATAPI port, more than doubles the read speed of the Zip 250 USB from 0.9 MB/sec to 2.0 MB/sec. Additionally, the FireWire port on a Mac or PC can supply power to the drive, eliminating the need for a power supply. The $80 adapter should be available later today from IomegaDirect.
