Growl 2.1 ($4) - Growl is a notification system that allows any Mac application to display desktop alerts. Version 2.1 adds the ability to run scripts as an action, as well as to control notifications via rules. In addition, Growl no longer hangs when receiving a large number of notes at one time and Webkit displays can now have custom styled close buttons. [Download - 6.8MB]

Cocktail 6.6 ($19) - Cocktail provides users access to some of the more advanced functions within the Unix Shell. The software features are organized into five categories, while the Pilot-mode will automatically scan a system and perform any necessary maintenance routines. Improvements to the "Search for corrupted preference files" procedure in this update now allows it to search for corrupted Launch Daemons and Launch Agents. [Download - 5.5MB]

VLC Media Player 2.0.8 (free) - VLC Media Player includes support for a wide range of audio and video file formats, including DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. The v2.0.8 update includes a fix for a crash that occurred when using QTsound. Several crashes in the libavodec module have also been resolved, and a new Kannada translation has been added. Arq 3.2.5 ($39) - Arq is a backup utility that will make incremental backups to an online storage account. The software keeps hourly backups for the past 24 hours, daily backups for the past month, and weekly backups for everything older than a month. The latest release fixes an issue where, if an error occurred during an HTTP/S connection, the app would continue to try to use that connection instead of dropping it and creating a new one. TextSoap 7.3.7 ($40) - TextSoap is a text processing utility that can use find and replace commands to change words and copy formatting throughout a document. In v3.7.3, a bug in which text labels in custom cleaner actions could overwrite buttons when the action was collapsed has been fixed. In addition, descriptions for normalize date cleaners are now correct, and other minor bugs have been resolved. [Download - 8.7MB]
